passport expiry/Valdity

Hello Guys!
I am going to apply by the last week of the January 2012 for visa application, and my passport will expire on January 2013...Now my question is that if i get the visa (Insha Allah) then it may be 1 year visa....then how can i increase my visa after reaching to Canada.

from most of the place i heard you should have atleast 6 month vadility in your passport before submitting for any visa process
i have done the same ... my passport was gonna expire in MARCH but i apply after renewing it

1. No USA rule of 6 months validity in Canada, you get permit up to the expiry date on Passport.

You can get a visa but you will probably get it till the time of your Passport Expiry.

Once you are in Canada. You will get a study permit that will expire on somewhat the same date as your Passport (may be a day before that). You will have to renew that so you should start that process 3 months in advance just to be on the safe side.

But before you to the permit, get your Passport renewed. You have to go to the Pakistani Embassy (I assumed you are from Pakistan ) .. And apply for a new passport. You dont have to wait if you came to that city from any other place. They will courier it to you. Once you have that, apply for a permit extension (Get Academic Letter from the University, Bank Statement etc etc ) ... And then apply for a visa once you get the permit.
