I was supposed to get PGWP until Feb 2017

My Indian passport expires in June 2016. As per rule I cannot extend my passport earlier than 1 year of expiry so not before June 2015.

CIC says I have to first obtain a new passport with a new expiry to be eligible for the remaining portion of PGWP..

Can anyone suggest how this can work?

Once you have your new passport, you will have to apply for the remainder of your PGWP.

Any clue how I can go about doing that? Is there a URL/link that I shud go through for steps?

Besides, any word on surety of getting the remainder of the PGWP or there are chance of rejection for whatever reason?

To renew your PGWP you have to apply by paper (that's what I found out from the CIC call center). Here is the link to the instructions of applying for PGWP by paper -

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/extend-worker.asp

Make sure you include a cover letter explaining your situation - PGWP initially issued to passport expiry and now you want to apply for its extension.

Also, remember to sign your application form by hand - I had sent my PGWP extension application first in August but it got returned because I signed my name electronically. Have re-sent my application in October but unfortunately the processing time for renewing PGWP is very long so I'm still waiting for an answer...
