Hi friends,

I have one question regarding passport renewal.
I am preparing to apply our PR application after we get the positive decision.
My minor son's passport will be expired in Sep 2024.
Do I need to get back his passport and renew his passport?
Thanks in advance.

Is your son in Canada and is Protected Person? Or Overseas Dependent

He is protected person in Canada.
Since Simba has not yet replied to you, allow me to reply to you.. Your son (like any other protected person) should not visit his embassy nor should he has any dealings with the government of his home country from which you have sought protection in Canada. No passport renewal, no dealings with the embassy, no visiting the embassy, nothing!!

This applies throughout the PR period. Only after you become a Canadian citizen, you can travel to your home country. Before that, if you use your home country passport or if you try to renew it, you risk your status including the PR which can be revoked and you will be removed permanently from Canada.

There is a refugee travel document (RTD) that a protected person can apply for and which can be used to travel abroad.
