Passport Expiration Before Program Ends

@ All,

Pls can anyone enlighten me on this issue?

My passport covers only 1year and 2months of my studies but my program is for two years. I still have enough blank pages of it left before it is due for renewal. Was i supposed to have renewed a passport that still have enough blank pages and is still valid for more than a year before applying? ???

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Pls tell me what my chances of getting the permit are bcos i have submitted my application already

Am really worried the VO may conclude that i have not proven satisfactorily that i will leave Canada at the end of my studies since my passport did not cover the entire duration of my studies.

Has anyone in a similar situation received a study permit irrespective of that??? Pls tell me plzzz

Hi there,

As you have already applied for the study permit/visa and waiting for their response, there is nothing you can do now. But if they issue a study permit, it won't exceed beyond the expiration date of your passport. So you will have to first renew your passport's expiration date and then apply for the extension of study permit, while your status is still valid.

In my opinion, the embassy personnel will have an idea that you can extend your passport using the local consulate. If you have a good solid case - meaning your bank statements are good enough with all necessary educational documents, you may get a study permit/visa. You have to wait and see how they will respond.

Well that's right. Expiry date of your passport shouldn't impact the decision. However, they won't issue you a TRV beyond the passport expiry date no matter your program is of three or 5 years. Valid visa on even expired passport is good to go unless it's damaged or passport is not valid for political or security concerns. Study permit is issued at POE.

thanks a great deal for replying. So if i made a valid case with the VO, i can still be issued with a visa only I will have to apply for extension of study permit after i have renewed my passport.

This is such a relief to hear this I thought all hope was lost!

I am curious to know whether the applicant can renew passport after getting visa from home country if there are still few months to go till session starts!! Or do they have to go through pp renewal, then study permit extension in canada only!!
