I applied in person at a Passport Canada office. My wife was my Guarantor and went with me. The processor asked both of us some questions, scanned my citizenship document, and off we went home.
It arrived one week later, by registered mail. A full blown Canadian by the end of the calendar year.

My wife did apply in person last summer, was very surprised when she received it after only one week with Canada post. That was pretty quick.
