Passport and COPR Lost by Canada POST

SO they lost it.

-Had my COPR and passport being returned from Ottawa.

Can someone/seniors please guide me the process on the following:

1. How to get the Indian passport in Toronto? and timelines for it? Address where to go
2. I had US visa for 10 years, how to get the visa again on the new passport?
3. Also who to inform in CIC about this situation and how get the COPR again?

and lastly, Fuck Canada post . Will be going to the police station to file an official report.


So many things affected by their stupid mistake. Had a job offer in a different province, that will be affected too now. Not sure if they will wait for me.

Any way to expedite the new passport issuance ?

can you not get the application number and get a SIN based on that? (for your Job). Also do you have scanned copies of PP?

For #2 i believe you have to go through the whole process of US visa again.

I would suggest you to immediately apply BOWP and get it before you clear all the headaches with Passports etc. You can still have the offer in a different province by having BOWP in hand.

Can he do that? I mean he's already got an immigrant visa, so can he still apply for any temporary visas/permits?

Did you use express post or just regular mail? did you mail an extra envelope, and did you have a tracking number?

You should inform the police maybe someone found it and hand it over to a police station.

Sorry to hear that. They lost it last year of one of my friend too. Hopefully they found it after 3 weeks after bugging them constantly over the phone.

Also I did pay for the return Xpress port envelope that was inside the main Xpress post.
Tracked to be delivered but never got it.

Exhausted all options with Canada post, at the end it is gone. will file a report once I get the letter from Canada post that they lost it.

Just need some advice on how to get a new Indian passport and what should I do for the validity of my COPR.

I do have a valid VISA to work till April 2015 so no need for BOWP

You dont need a Passport if you have a drivers licence.

In my case canadapost has updated with "Delivered " option but actually there was nothing in my mailbox. This happened this week Monday. I went to all nearby post offices and called call center and they opened high priority ticket. nothing helped until i went to the main Distribution Center for my area and met the supervisor there.

Fortunately, after couple of hours waiting, he came back to me with the mailman. Mailman recalled that by mistake he might have delivered in another building across my street. I went with him and found that, the guy mailbox where he delivered, has given the parcel to his building manager stating wrong delivery.

I was lucky enough to get my passport & COPR back. I went through hell of trauma in those two days. I can understand buddy your case much better,
As a suggestion, could you please do the same and visit the distribution center and try to find more.

Wow, good job bmp. Tracking down the mailman was definitely an excellent idea! Usually you have the same person delivering to your address so getting a hold of him/her is the best way to find your package.

Canada Post has lost some of my packages and they take around a week or two to get rerouted (even coming from a few blocks away).

I would suggest before doing all this to give them some time to actually correct the mistake. Sometimes as the example below they give it to the concierge as "wrong address" then they get it back to the central post office and then reroute it..... and they will call you. Everybody makes mistakes, Canada Post doesn't know it is a passport (nor the people who recieved it) so it is treated as a normal envelope with no specific priority.

If it hasn't been that long then wait. Canada Post is good at getting packages back.

This happened this week itself on Monday till Wednesday. In my case, problem was that mailman delivered to wrong address and updated status as "Delivered". Well as per the supervsior, he told they used to take extra care of Expresspost parcels, but somehow this slip happened. Imagine, the situation if the guy whom it got delivered would have simply discarded the package rather than giving it to the building manager, i would have been in big problem...Only thing, i got saved because i acted real quick and went to the distribution center and atleast got access to the supervisor and the mailman..

I don't think anyone would just discard the slip.

Have you ever recieved a package that arrived two or three weeks after it was supposed to arrive? If so most probably that package just got misdelivered and those 2-3 weeks were spent on rerouting it. The difference is that with tracking number you are aware of it, and when there is no tracking you just think "it is taking longer than usual".

Most probably once the building manager gave it to the postman then the package would have arrived just a week delayed. This is normal procedure with misdelivered mail. I am certain that if you have waited the slip would have found its way to your door.

Good idea BMP, I will find the distribution center and the mailman.

Although the call center supervisor tracked the mailman and he doesn't remember anything about it.
