Hi everyone,

I'm currently at the stage of awaiting the request for a medical exam in my wife's (PA) family class PR process. I know international travel usually requires passports to be valid for a minimum of six months from the date of travel. As this process has dragged on longer than expected, we'll be nearing the end of that validity next month.

I'm wondering if anyone here has had any experience with this? I assume we'll need to update CIC with the new passport information - are scans/notarized copies required? If you've been through this, did it cause a significant delay in your process?

I'm trying to get ahead of this one, if I can, and minimize delays as much as possible - any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks!

if you renew your passport......you only need to inform IRCC when you have received the new passport.....just send a copy of the data page through IRCC webform to your visa office

So, we applied in September 2018. Our background check started processing on January 2nd, the same day we had a request from CIC for a new passport (my husband, the PR's current one expires in May 2018). We actually just got the new one today and sent them the updated copy. So, you should get a request for a new one. You could probably just go ahead and get the new one now, and then submit it proactively, since they will most likely want it eventually.

Thank you both for the responses. I think we'll just do it proactively. We certainly have the time now and I'd be comfortable with our record being fully updated and good to go before we go into the background check stage .
