I have almost got my FSW visa and hopefully will be in Toronto sometime this year. My parents are emigrating to Turkey for a while from the UK as well. What I was wondering is after 1 year am I able to sponsor the two of them to come to Canada? How long does this process take? How many weeks a year would they have to spend in Canada? Can they gain residency after a period of time? Will they get healthcare at any point?

from what I understand, you can only sponsor your parents if you are a permanent resident of Canada (or Citizen) and if you've made a certain amount of income.

Most like you'd have to apply when they're back home. I don't think you can sponsor your parents while they are in Canada (like spouse sponsorship).

I submitted my sponsorship application (part 1) in June 2007 and until today still have not heard anything yet.

I assume it will take another 3 years for the part 2 process to be finalized - parents applying for PR from back home.

You can sponsor them once you're a Permanent Resident, and after you've filed a tax return showing you have sufficient income from Canadian earnings to meet the minimum-income requirement.

It typically takes 4 - 5 years for parental sponsorship. (Currently: 34 months for the sponsorship in Canada, then 7-15 months in London for most cases.)

Once granted PR status, they would be eligible for provincial health care after a 2-3 month wait period in most provinces.

To maintain PR status, they would need to live in Canada 2 years out of every 5, same as you, to meet the residency obligation.

Wanted to start the process early due to the time it takes to be put through. That way it's there as an option if they ever want to take it up
