I applied for visitor visa for my parents and the application is still processing. Its been more than 1.5 years.
We had reached out to our MP to see if they can push the application ahead. However all the update that i received is that security clearance is still going on.
My father was in Indian Navy for 18years and i had mentioned that in the application.

Application Submitted: September 17, 2023
Date of Biometrics : September 22, 2023
IRCC contacted : Jan 2024 ( Asking to provide more information about the Navy roles, locations, date, designation throughout his tenure in Indian Navy ) which we provided.

Has anyone's parents were an ex government employee ?? What is the timeline that it took to get visitor visa ??
Any leads on what i could do to get the application processed. Please help

Your father's Indian Navy background automatically triggers a more thorough security and background clearance, especially if:

  • He held sensitive designations or was posted in critical locations.
  • The service duration (18 years) involves multiple roles and sites, which can take time to verify.

Security screening is done by CSIS (Canadian Security Intelligence Service) and sometimes involves foreign verification, which slows things down considerably.

What More Can You Do?
1. MP Follow-up (Again):

Ask your MP’s office to request a CSIS security screening status (this sometimes works). Make sure they mention the duration of delay.

2. Webform Inquiry (IRCC):

You can still send a polite IRCC webform update request. Emphasize:

  • You’ve already provided the required documents in Jan 2024.
  • It's a visit application, not immigration, and has been 1.5 years.
  • Mention compassionate aspects (e.g., visiting grandchildren, age of parents, health if applicable).

3. GCMS Notes (Highly Recommended):

Request GCMS notes (Global Case Management System). This will:

  • Show exactly what stage the application is in.
  • Confirm whether security screening is pending or complete.
  • Reveal if there's any red flag or missing document.
