Hi all I applied for my parents visitor visa application through the new portal and submitted on January 30 2024 since then there is no updates. They held a 10 year visa to Canada before so it’s not their first time. I called ircc and was told their application hasn’t been processed yet. What should I do. It’s 2 months now. Has anyone else applied for visa for their parents who live in France and how long did it take. Thanks in advance everyone

Unfortunately posted estimated processing times are close to 300 days right now. You can certainly send a web form to check on status but you may not get much of a response since their application is well below the estimated time.

Do we know why it’s that long as other countries are waaay shorter. My friends parents are in India and they received in two weeks their passport. My other friends parents who live in Turkey received visa in a week. Why is France processing time so long? Thank you

Staffing would be one reason. French citizens don’t need TRV so there is no need for the number of staff to process visas compared to India where you need a visa. Also, people applying from France or the UK are not applying from home country so processing is longer for background, security checks etc. So citizenship will be a factor too. If from countries with high number of refugees or high risk countries, processing is longer.

It's application volumes vs. the staff they have in those countries to handle those application volumes.

I’ve heard from a visa agency that one trick that might speed things up is to buy the tickets in advance and show the booking as part of the application.

Incorrect no impact and Canada actually discourages you from buying tickets in case you are refused a visa or processing takes a long time.
