Parents Sponsorship : MNI for 2013, off by $2000 : Any other applicants try?

Hello Members,

I am eagerly waiting to sponsor my parents, but unfortunately my MNI for 2013 is short by $2000. The wait is extremely excruciating, and I am thinking to try applying at the end of this year anyway. I had a question for the more experienced people:

-Has anyone tried to apply despite not meeting the MNI, and had any success?
-Would I get the $1000 fee that I pay, if my application doesn't go through?
-Can you please recommend Courier companies that have genuinely delivered on the same day?

It is really sad and frustrating how hard the government has made this for parents sponsorship ...

Thank you.

CIC is extremely strict about LICO. You're going to be refused. Are your taxes for 2013 100% accurate? Is there any income that you didn't declare? That's the only real out here. Otherwise you need to wait one more year.

Yes they are scylla. I wish there was some way that I had paid higher taxes for 2013. I have been going through the different threads to see if someone risked applying anyway and was rejected - but didn't find a concrete admission. Do you know personally, of people this close and still rejected? Seems quite cruel to be honest.

Do you know if my fees will be refunded if my application is sent back?

Unfortunately I believe scylla is correct that IRCC is very strict about the LICO. They are so overwhelmed with the number of applicants that the LICO is one way they can filter the number down so they use it as a strict cutoff. I don't know if things have changed but this is how it used to be at least.

It's not cruel at all. Just as Canada Revenue must be strict about income tax cutoffs, CIC must be strict about the LICO cutoff.

Thanks all for your replies.

mikeymyke : Did you end up applying and get rejected because of the $500? Or did you not apply at all?

If you are willing to pay penalty for not declaring income for 2013 and can pay tax on cash income then you can try doing re-assessment of your income for 2013. But you need to show CRA that you had cash income somehow you didn't show. Otherwise there is no option and you will get rejected if you don't meet requirements even if its just matter of $100.00. Rules are rules and don't even bother applying and wasting money.

If you are even $1 less than the LICO amount, the app will be refused. There is no negotiation here, it's a simple yes or no answer to if you meet LICO or not. How much you don't meet it by is irrelevant.

As mentioned, you should see if there's any way you can somehow re-do your 2013 taxes to show more income, but just make sure you don't do anything illegal with CRA.

No I didnt. As mentioned earlier, even short by $1 will automatically lead to refusal, theres no negotiating this. I work construction and although I couldve technically cheated on my taxes by declaring $500 of "other income", I didnt think it was worth it. Also as mentioned before, my mom in law isnt exactly dying to come here right away so she is totallly fine with waiting until 2018
