Hi,

Both of my parents met the residency requirements in 2015 and applied for PR card renewal. Waited for 5months and left to India. Their PR cards are ready, my dad's card was mailed to home in Canada and my mom needs to pick up the card in person. Currently she is India, counting from 2016 (back 5yrs) both of them are missing 3months.

My father is sure that he can't live in Canada for more than 4 months. He wants to come in summer time stay for few months and want to go back by middle of September or so. Both of them don't want to stay in Winter here.

For them just to come and stay in summer and spend with kids and grandson, I am thinking of
1) Voluntarily renounce permanent resident status
2) Apply for Super Visa.

Here are my questions, may be someone can help

1) To complete the 2 steps (Renouncing and applying for Super Visa), Do I need to have a lawyer? Does it help?
2) Would there be any issues in getting Super Visa after Renouncing PR status?
3) I read about buying Health Insurance while applying for Super Visa. Do I need to buy it for an year (instead of 4 months - the time they stay in Canada)?
4) Can I apply for both of them at the same time or do I need to wait for Renouncing in order to apply for Super Visa?
5) My parents wants to come to Canada in Summer 2017. 1yr time would be enough to complete these 2 tasks in INDIA?

If I have forgot about any other issues/information, please let me know.

Thanks in advance. I appreciate all your help.

As far as I'm aware, the 2016 intake for the Supervisa was reached some time ago. Therefore, that category is not open until I presume, January of next year. So, if they visit Summre 2017, you will need to submit their application ASAP in January , as there were only 10,000 places last year.

There will be no problem obtaining a visa after renouncing PR status.

Don't know about health insurance.

You will need to look into what your parents will need to be eligble for the visa.

1. No, you don't need a lawyer and having one doesn't affect the process.

2. There shouldn't be any issue.

3. Minimum of one year medical insurance.

4. No, you can't apply for both at the same time. The must renounce first and the apply for the supervisa once they are no longer PRS.

5. Yes, 1 year should be enough time.

This is for parent SPONSORSHIP, not supervisa.

If they only want to spent 6 months a year or less, they don't even need a super visa. A regular multiple entry visit visa would be fine. However, there is a chance that the visa could be denied based on that they are a risk to overstay in Canada.

Hi,

Thanks for a quick reply. I was under the impression that Super visa is Multiple entry visa.
According to you these 2 are different.
When we look at submitting (supporting) documents for these 2 types how different are they?
If the supporting documents are same which one would be better to apply?

I heard that you need to submit house or land documents.

Thanks.

Supervisa has stricter requirements than a regular multiple entry visa. You need to prove your income for the past 3 years for a supervisa to show that you can support your parents. Health insurance for your parents is mandatory. With a supervisa, they can stay for up to two years at a time.

For a regular visit visa, you don't have to prove income and health insurance isn't mandatory although it is always a good idea and they can only stay for up to 6 months at a time.
