Hello,

I have few questions about parents' sponsorship to Canada from Pakistan.

Background:
My wife and I want to sponsor my wife's parents to Canada, they already have a multiple visa for 2 years and visit us frequently, my wife and I are Canadian PR and my wife's sister is a Canadian citizen. My wife and her sister both don't meet LICO and still are students, that being the reason my wife and I plan to sponsor her parents as I meet the LICO (~75k/year).

Questions:
1. Can me and my wife together sponsor her parents? If yes where should we file the application? Would it make any difference if we file the application in Canada while they are visiting us in here?
2. I also want to sponsor my parents including my two siblings, If I sponsor my parents in law, would I be able to sponsor my own parents and siblings? Is there any time constraint between the two applications or can I file both parents sponsorship case together?

If anyone has similar experience or has knowledge on this issue, please shed some light as I need to nail it down sooner than later.

Thank you.
Zawan

1. Yes - you and your wife can co-sponsor your parents-in-law. All applicants are sent to Mississauga - the file will then be sent to the visa office if your wife's parents' home country. No - it won't make any difference if you file the application while they are visiting Canada. Note that you will have to wait until January to apply and will have to provide three years of Canadian tax returns proving you meet the low income cut off each of those three years.
2. Sure - you can sponsor your parents and siblings provided you meet LICO for the previous three years and can provide three tax returns as evidence. You will have to meet LICO for you an your wife (2) + her parents (2) + your parents (2) + the number of siblings you have. Note that you can only include your sibilings if they are less than 19 years old.

Just to add to my comments above, you can find information on the low income cut off here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5772ETOC.asp

Based on the information you have provided, you don't have the income to sponsor both your wife's parents as well as your own parents and dependent siblings.

To sponsor 2 sets of parents in January 2015 with total family size of 8 (sponsor + co-sponsor + 2 parents + 2 parents + 2 dependents under 19), you would need to submit incomes of:
2011 - $84,261
2012 - $85,808
2013 - somewhere over $87K

Sounds like you will only be able to sponsor 1 set of parents for now. If your siblings will be turning 19 in the next 5 years or so, might be good to sponsor your own parents first so their ages can be locked in as of Jan 2015 as dependents.

Hi!
For any reason, can I just sponsor my auntie instead of my parents? She is single & she already given a chance to visit me.

Hi!

You may sponsor one relative, related by blood or adoption, of any age if you meet all of the conditions, including:

  • you don't have a living relative you could sponsor instead, such as a:
    • spouse
    • common-law partner
    • conjugal partner
    • son or daughter
    • parent
    • grandparent
    • brother or sister
    • uncle or aunt
    • nephew or niece
  • you don’t have any of the above-named relatives who is:
    • a Canadian citizen
    • a permanent resident
    • registered Indian under the Indian Act
If the relative you want to sponsor has a spouse, partner, or dependent children who will come with them to Canada you must include them on the same sponsorship application.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/family-sponsorship/other-relatives/who-you-can-sponsor.html

You can sponsor your aunt if you meet the conditions above.

Hi! Another question.
The Application to visit is approved. The Document is "Counterfoil", and the Passport stamped Visitor.
What is the exact meaning of "Counterfoil"? Visa is open up to 2028.
Thank you!

Check in the visitors section of the forum as this one is for family sponsorship.

Hi Rob

I have a similar question around the sponsorship lines.

my first notice of assesment is of the year 2017 where i worked only for 6 months and is way under LICO only 24k for those 6 months, can i round it up as 48K annually?

Does CRA count half a year worked as a full year, considering i only landed in Canada in June 2017, started working shortly after that.
