can someone share the experience for this issue?
I got IRCC email request to collect biometrics from my parents today. my parents are currently in Canada with me using valid visitor visa. according to the email, applicants need to go aboard for this in any closest VAC. There are some conditional exemptions in immigration website mentioned you may qualify for exemption if you are already in Canada. I'm confused whether my parents need to change their return tickets or not certainly I would like to avoid this. anyone encountered the same situation? how did you do?

When was your application received? if you don't mind me asking.

So far in this forum, i remember only one person got bio request whose parents were in Canada (well they just landed the same day when he got the request) and he got an extension for 30 days.
You have a few options:
1) If your parents have a USA visa, they can do it in US
2) Some people have also suggested to do it in Mexico, as no visa is required for the Canadian visa holders. But I haven’t heard anyone doing in this forum so far.
3) If your parents are going back home soon within a month or 2, contact IrCC via the webform explaining them your situation that your parents are here and tell them their intended date of return, they might give you an extension up to that time.

Thanks. 30 days is the time they gave to complete the biometrics, however my parents return tickets will be in 60days. what about the exemption if they are already in Canada?how to contact IRCC via webform? can I call them, will they give extension to complete for this condition?

That person got 30 days extension on the top of initial 30 days, making it 60 days in total to complete the request.
So i would say if your parents are going back in 60 days, send them webform along with their return tickets showing the date, so they will give you more than that to complete it.
About the exemption, i am not sure. Some people who used Canadian address as parents’ residential address were not asked to do it.
But you can call them tomorrow and ask what they suggest.

Wow, how is it possible? Why do some people whose parents are in Canada have that request and the others don’t? What does it depend on?

I am not sure but i think some people who used the Canadian address as residential address at the time of the application, were not asked to do bio.
But i am not sure if anyone got the bio request even if they provided Canadian address and parents are still in Canada.

Just wondering if background check is mandatory for everyone. My CIC shows they are doing background check. Just wondering if anyone else see the same message, and how long the background check normally takes?

Where are you seeing this, I submitted my parents application via paper ?

We have been in Canada for over a year and own our own house, we gave our Canadian address on all forms during the application and still got the bio request. Had to travel down to Montana to get them done. Seems to be very hit and miss as to having a Canadian address and getting bio request.

Those who have received police certificate requests....please share the criteria requested, e.g. how old can the police certificate be? Thank you.

@fjle
Could you please share the exact office you went to, and how did the process go? Did you tell the officer you were going for that or not? Asking because I think when my time comes my closest place for my mom’s Bio will be Montana as well! I just Hope is not in the winter..

Very much appreciated.
Thanks
