Parent Sponsorship Quebec Lawyers

Dear all,

I missed the opportunity to sponsor my parents back in Feb/Mar when the scheme was open for 11 minutes (if you ask, for me, it was totally a scam... because I was refreshing the page every single second and NEVER EVER did I see any application form. So many people were experiencing the same thing)

Now, since the scheme seems rather dodgy to me, I am considering using an immigration lawyer for a better success chance in 2020. Does anyone know how much it would cost roughly? What was your experience going through lawyers (does it make a difference to your application?)

I am skeptical because if it's again a 'first come first serve' basis, it seems that what I need is the fastest Internet possible, and not lawyers.

Thank you for any advice that you might have.

Unless your lawyers are capable of hiring many people to press buttons all at once, I don't know why lawyers would make a difference.

That’s really my concern... the thing is I do not know what else to do. In Feb I took the day off from work, and was literally pressing F5 every second...

We have no idea what system will be used this year and what will be the requirements so would wait until then to see if you qualify. Given the lawsuits thesystem will change next year.

I certainly hope so.
IMO they should just go back to paper application when the system opens and not accept private couriers. This would even the odds and take away the GTA advantage. Not ideal but better than the lottery or last years filing of online intention.

How wouldn’t that not give an advantage to people who live in the same city as the drop-off location? Still think giving a weighting to the length of time the child had been in Canada (or working in Canada) would be be the best way to ensure that that longterm residents would be rewarded.

In person drop off was never allowed. So if they eliminate local couriers everyone would have to send by regular courier or post.

One other item that should be addressed is the income requirement. The current income requirement is too low. Also it’s baffling why sponsors are allowed to live in subsidized housing and have the ability to sponsor. Any person in receipt of any income assistance or subsidy should not have the ability to sponsor anyone and while under sponsorship agreement these individuals should be barred from getting any financial assistance or subsidies. It may be harsh , but Canada really needs to better protect its taxpayers and start investing more to protect its aging population.

Agree. Don’t think you can leave it up for Canada post, FedEx, UPS to pick who gets selected based on who gets delivered on one day.

Seems like we have many great ideas to improve this program. I am still looking to hear experiences of someone who has worked with immigration lawyer in the past on this. Any advice would be appreciated.

Would wait and see whether you actually qualify first.

Let’s say I am. Would a lawyer increase the chance of registering my name to the application system as the 2019 scheme?
No - of course not.
