Hi everyone,

I am planning on sponsoring my husband's mother over and I have a couple questions that I hope you can clarify for me. Thank you in advance!

1. I know I have to meet the minimum 30% on top of LICO for the 3 preceding year of the application year to qualify. The question I have is if my family size changed during the 3 years, does that change my LICO? For example if I was planning to apply in 2017, I had a family size of 4 (husband, me, child, sponsor parent) in year 2014/2015 but in 2016 I had another child. What would my LICO be based on? 2014 - 2015 (size 4) and 2016 - (size 5)? Or it will be based on size 5 for the 3 years?

2. I believe we only have enough income to sponsor my mother in law over. Is there a requirement to sponsor both of his parents?

Thank you very much for your help! :)

Your LICO must agree with the minimum for your family size. If your family size changes the next year, then your 'new' LICO will be in effect from that point in time forward and you must maintain it until the application is finalized and the person landed. BTW, YOU cannot sponsor your MIL, however you can co-sign for your husband to sponsor his mother.

If his mother and father are married, you must meet the lico for them both. You can not sponsor only one of them.

If you plan to sponsor parents in 2017, the only family size that matters is as of Jan 3, 2017. So based on your example that is you + spouse + 2 kids + 2 parents = 6. So you would need to have income meeting family size of 6 for 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Doesn't matter if you want to sponsor 1 or both parents, if they are married you need to meet family size of 6 regardless. So basically there is no advantage in sponsoring just 1.

Also you're expected to maintain your LICO income for the 4-5 years or so it takes for them to be approved. Also note that if either parent fails the medical exam, both parents will not get PR.
