Hello Folks,

Long time reader, first time question.

My mum has 2 legal names (people know anything is possible in India) - It was more of taking things lightly. She has a different name on her passport (She has a pan card with this name ) and different name on tax doc's / property title (Aadhaar card with this name)

Contacted a few lawyers fro advice but nothing concrete - has anyone experienced this?

Someone mentioned that if she can get a certificate from Suvidha center stating that she is the same person, that could be admissible in Canadian embassy..?

Any help would be appreciated.

Very Different.

Let's put it this way - One's Susan Halliday the other is Cameron Diaz :(
Anything is possible :) :)

For the TRV, the name in her passport matters. For evidence of strong ties, the other documents which you mentioned.

Not sure how she is able to file her tax returns using a name that's completely different from that on her PAN Card.

You must get an affidavit made which states that both names are the identity of the same person + list the documents in which the names are different.

Also, in the TRV application form, your mom must state all names (maiden, aliases, etc) for the question which asks for this information

Even if she gets her taxes re filed, she'd have to jump through a lot of hoops to change the property documents. I hope the affidavit suffices.

It won't be easy to change the property documents. Might get pretty expensive too if she has to pay stamp duty/registration

If these two names are a maiden name + married name then you may want to check with the lawyer if she must publish a classified advertisement + gazetted records.... for a change in the name

That seems to be the logical route to proceed with, any experience of knowing if it works with the Canadian embassy?

For the visa office: Only the name in her passport + Question 2 (Personal details) for names/alias/nick names

You'll be preparing an affidavit etc to prove that your mom (passport name) who owns the property, files the tax returns, etc

My dad was in exact same situation
He got a public notice published in two newspapers stating that "Name A" and " Name B" is the same person.
Then he took this public notice to suvidha kendra and got a Name change Affidavit.

You can do the same for your Mom, It works for sure.
When you apply from your Mom's TRV you can use these two documents to prove that "Name A" and "Name B" is the same person
