its been two weeks i was away from forum. actually was busy in packing up the stuff and complete the unfinished duties here in pakistan.we have booked tickets for 8th april on PIA Lahore to Toronto.I have a questiony friends,is it possible to take some money e.g for a couple of months and then open a bank account and then get the rest of the money transferred from pakistan to the canadian bank instead of keeping DD.TC with you.
And if this case if ask by immigration officer at landing, can we just tell them that we will get the money transferred once we get the bank account.you have to wait for 30 days to get the DD en-cashed anyway. Please give me your opinion.

required funds must be shown at the landing time to officer in cash or DD or TC, no statements even, take care all are taking cash with them.
or open ur account with HSBC help in Canad and transfer funds to CANADA in advance prior to your landing

As nekeol has advised, you need to have the entire amount with you. They are not interested in when your DD will get encashed, they use the POF as a precaution to ensure you have enough money to last you for few months in Canada without being able to find a job. Canadian officials used to be very trusting, however with number of fraud cases they have caught over the years, they do not trust any financial instrument unless it is drawn on a Canadian or US bank.

Please do remember to carry enough cash to last you till DD is cleared (about 14 days, if it is C$ DD drawn on a Canadian bank (could be less but depends on your Canadian bank), much longer if it is a US$ DD or drawn on US bank).

@ goingnorth,
I attended IOM pre depature session at Lahore last sunday,The IOM lady there insisted that you can take as much money as you like for the 1st time but if over CAD $10000 then you have to DECLARE it.She said this exception is for immigrants(landing 1st time).

Salam to All,

I have a question to experts members, can we take, cash in us dollar as a Prof of found and, is there any limit to take us dollar, out side Pakistan.

Best Regards,

Unfortunately it is not even US$10,000 anymore, they have decreased it to $5000 per passenger. Which means if you are 4 passengers you can carry only US$20,000. However this only applies to cash. If you have a DD of even US$100,000 this does not count towards your cash carrying limit. As the bank you get the DD made from in Pakistan is technically just giving you a check of their bank account in Canada (I am oversimplifying it here 8)) , so you are in fact not carrying any money out of Pakistan.

Are you talking about Pakistan airport or Canadian airport? In Canada I know you can bring as much as you want in any of your trips to Canada, as their is no restriction, you just need to declare any amount over C$10,000 per passenger. This is for all trips and not just first landing.

For Pakistan airport, I have heard other members also say that they allow infinite amount for new immigrants. However I have not come across anyone who has actually declared an amount larger then US$10,000 to FIA in Pakistan. I know a few of my relatives who were stopped by FIA for carrying large amounts in Pak Rupees when going for Umrah (I think PKR 5000 is the max you can carry or maybe less), but they were only requested to have the money converted to Saudi Riyals from the money changer before going through immigration. They refused and that was the end of that.

You must carry all the POF as it may be requested to be seen by Canadian immigration officials @ airport upon landing.

$5000 per person limit is imposed by Pakistani govt, not by Canadian govt.
Canadian govt welcomes every dollar you bring, just make sure you declare to Canadian customs any amounts in cash, if over $10,000.
No tax or duty on it so don't worry its settlement funds.

1. If possible, open and transfer money into bank account in Canada......in case u can have account opened from Pak.
2. Bring cash as much as authorized, rest in traveler cheques, etc.

not sure which banks allow #1 for Pakistanis. I know a handful of other countries allow it, some Canadian banks have branches in some foreign countries. Check HSBC, Scotiabank, etc.

you will definitely need CASH in the first few days/months. Make sure you bring enough or have someone transfer it to you through moneygram/western union, etc

Agree with both of you boys.there should not be any restrictions for immigrants bringing money to the adopted country. :)
