Information for those families who shall be flying soon.

We are family of four and bringing lot of stuff like extra clothings, undergarments, summer shoes, crockery, cutlery, bed linen, towels and kitchen utensils etc, that's why we have excess baggage. As I am coming through Emirates which allows one suitecase of 23kg and one 7kg standard hand carry with ticket, and for an extra 23 kg suitecase I was asked to pay 250 USD from Islamabad to Calgary. I will need almost 3 to 4 suitecases to fill in my extra luggage.
I got a good deal from DHL, they are taking my 100 kg extra luggage from Islamabad to Calgary in 630 USD.
This way I am saving on shipping cost, cost of suitecases, since I need to take all items without packing and those will be put in Carton provided by DHL (and extra suitecases will be of no use after reaching Canada) also cost of bringing them from Airport to home since DHL will deliever at the door step.
I am taking necessary items with me on the Flight and this extra luggage will reach once we are relatively settled in the house.

Hi
Ur guide line received verry usefull.
I was wondering that all the air line give two bags allowance for each passanger to USA and Canada. Then how come you are getting one baggae allowance.
Just recheck this. One more thing is your flight via USA if yes so are you required to get US visa as well.

Agreed. Standard allowance is 2 pieces of 23 kg each per person for Emirates from Islamabad to Calgary. I think he had bought this ticket from a website (offering cheap air fares). If he had gone to a travel agent ticket will be little expensive but allowance would be large two bags of 23kg per person. Including courier charges it comes as even expensive than the price he would have paid paid to travel agent. Thanks

In any case yes he is required to obtain a transit visa for USA if his flight has a stop over in USA. Check this link

http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/without/without_1260.html

Permanent residents (landed immigrants) of Canada must have a nonimmigrant visa unless the permanent resident is a national of a country that participates in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), meets the VWP requirements, and is seeking to enter the United States for 90 days or less under that program.
