Hello everyone

Myself along with wife and 2 children landed together in 1st week of July. Yesterday got PR cards of my wife and 2 children but mine was not received.

What does this situation depicts. Is there something to worry about or is it normal.

I would request expert opinion of experienced forum mates

Thanks in Advance

Best regards

Hello Forumites,

I need some clarifications about landing procedure as a newcomer.

I am heading to Halifax via Toronto (YYZ Airport) and it appears i will have to do my landing formalities in Toronto.

- What comes first, do i need to do the landing formalities first or pick my luggage first?

- If i have to do the landing formalities first, where will i be able to locate my luggage?

-After, the landing process, how do i get my luggage checked into the connecting flight to Halifax?

- Assuming i miss my connecting flight, can i always buy ticket at the airport?

Thank you

has any one tried saudi airline from karachi to torronto ? I believe they are cheapest as of now. Are they good ?

No personal experience but SAA is
Good: Cheap, double baggage allowance (excellent for new immigrants), discounted tickets for kids
Bad: gets special attentions at all destinations, especially west.
Comfort ????

The very first thing you should do is that dispatch the passports as soon as possible. Deadlines are important but i do not think application will be rejected just because of missing it by a couple of days. So don't worry. Good luck

I traveled a month ago through Etihad. I would recommend PIA to new immigrants, specially if you're traveling with kids. Flying for as long as 14 hours is really big deal and in case of connecting flights three hours to middle east and three hours wait between the flights and you basically end up before the start of long and tiring 14 hour flight.

BELATED eiD UL AZHA mubarik dear forumites....
just needed to share an info...which noone told us before landing here, here in canada, u must have to buy car especially if u have kids.
cars r very cheap but driving rules r very tough to follow .aslo u can not take car on road without insurance...
insurance cost for corolla /honda civic type cars is minimum 270$ per month...
but if u provide a document which states that u hav been paying insurance in ur home country in past, then insurance is reduced to almost 150$.
SO DONT FORGET TO BRING THAT DOCUMENT WITH U FROM PAKISTAN IF U PLAN TO BUY a CAR here...

good luck all.

Really, no one mentioned this before. I have been paying for car insurance for last 8 years, documents for which I usually throw away after expiry. However, for current year, I'll keep them and utilize for discounting on premium in Canada.

Many thnx.

Also to mention ,im talking about insurance policy in british columbia....
Rules vary province by province...( just heard frm my frnd in montreal, thy r paying just 33$ per month insurance for car)
Alberta offer more new immigrant benefits, but u hv compromise on extreme cold weather condition...
Vancouver is weather wise very good, still warm when sunny, but way tooooo expensive....

Also, if u plan to get driving licence, better start studying for knowledge test,if u hv time in PAk, search online, all the guides r available, it may save ur time.
As per rule,if u pass ur knowledge test,u can drive with ur paki licence for 3months, starting from day of landing....
Road is a bit tough, mainly due to lefthand drive, so u can get practice before road test...

I have traveled Saudi Arabian Airlines many times. I live in KSA.
Also traveled on many other airlines like KLM, BA, Lufthansa,, Etihad, Emirates, Qatar, Gulf air, PIA, and others.

1. It's cheap, well maintained and modern fleet of aircraft's.
2. Same baggage allowance like Etihad or Emirates.
3. Excellent meals
4. Very good entertainment
5. Availability of WiFi, Charging facilities - all seats
6. Seat size is better then others (seat pitch)
7. Much higher security inspections on boarding compared to other airlines.
8. 75% fare for kids aged 2 to 11, 10% fare under 2 yrs.

Hope it clarifies.

Dear maha,
Thanks for the excellent advice and info !
I use Tawuniya in KSA. Which is one of the best in Mideast.
Is the insurance letter issued with the card annually, enough ?
Any older records needed/helpful ?.
Or a letter from the company ?

+1 for you
