I applied paper based on 29th May and my file was received at CHC on 30th May. I received my study permit on 8th July. Now i am confused if my study permit comes under new rules or old rules ?
Please someone clear my confusion. Thankyou

Your visa is under old rules. Any applicant who "APPLIED" before June 1st will get the old visa. Also your study permit at POE will be 3 yrs max if you're going for undergrad.
You will also need to wait 6 months before you can apply for off campus work permit for odd jobs.

Every Tom, Dick and Harry will have a different view on this. I had everything ready in April, but waited 2 months only so I could get a visa under the new rules. I did get my visa and I'm sure about it

I think Sam 89 is right. The keyword is "ISSUNACE DATE ON STUDY PERMIT".
1) If it is before 1st June 2014 than you have to wait for six months and than apply for work permit.
2) If it is after 1st June 2014 than you don't need to apply for work permit. You are eligible for on/off campus work abiding hours conditions

And Please Refer:http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study-changes.asp It says:"On June 1, 2014, if you hold a study permit but you have not yet applied for an Off-Campus Work Permit, you are authorized to work off campus without a work permit as long as you meet the eligibility requirements for working off campus." It means as on 1st June 2014 if you hold study permit even you applied before (1st June) and it is issued before (1st June) you are eligible to work off campus and you don't need to apply for it after six months.

your right duster i came here in may 2014 i only need letter from my institute proving that i am full time student and i have to submit that letter to CIC and in probably 30 days i will get confirmation letter from CIC... take confirmation letterto service canada office they will issue SIN Number right away.

With the grace of Allah(SWT) I got my visa stamped passport today along with letter of introduction through TCS Courier mail from CHC Islamabad.

I had a question that once study permit is issued at point of entry than in domestic flights you dont have to go through immigration and process? for example if i go to toronto get my study permit and after spending a week i go to edmonton via calgary do i have to go through the hassle again or just show study permit and proceed without following the immigration queue.
