2013 Immigration Levels Planning
CIC is consulting with stakeholders and the public on immigration levels for 2013 & beyond... specifically on the (1)total number of new PRs Canada should accept - and (2)what should be its distribution within different categories.
The consultations are exploring three (3) main questions:
1. What is the appropriate level of immigration for Canada? Should the number of immigrants per year change?
2. What is the appropriate distribution between the number of economic immigrants, family class and refugees?
3. What role can immigration play to support Canada's economy?
Bottomline:
In planning for the total number of people to admit as PRs, CIC must not only balance the Government of Canada's immigration objectives, but also consider broader government commitments, input from provinces and territories, and current and future economic conditions. The Department must also take into account its operational ability to process applications in a timely manner, as well as the capacity of communities to welcome newcomers.
