Having 10 yrs exp is not a problem. Once you gel into the workforce here, this will be an advantage for you. And no, careeredge will not consider this when giving you an offer for internship (if you clear the interviews)

I was of same age and same exp level when i got 6 months internship offer from them...

I am planning to move in early 2016. I have gone through most job related posts, all success & unsuccessful stories. Successful immigrants, would you please share your techinques with us.

Please can anyone suggest me what type of bridging course should I go for, to land a job in finance department. I am currently working as an accounts payable in an oil & gas co (MNC) in my country & experience of 9 yrs. I dont mind to start from scratch.

+1 For CareerEdge. Found my first job through it too. Very useful bridging program, but also very competitive. As it was mentioned, new grads from Canadian universities also use it. But if you keep applying, you will get a job. Just be patient.

Not an expert (Although can be one in job search), here is my 2 cents. When you arrive, look for employment services in your area. There are many and they offer courses for newcomers. These courses do not teach you much, but they are a good starting point. Examples of organizations are Woodbridge, culturelink, neighborhood link. These organizations have mentoring programs which you need to attend. Get out of your comfort zone and attend as many networking events as possible. Have patience most importantly.

CareerEdge for sure was my golden ticket to landing a position which was higher than my dream job. Once people get the opportunity my advice to them is that don't stop there as you need to network and showcase your skills on the temporary assignment and let it known that you can do a lot more than what the position you was hired for.

Network network network please don't just sit in your office and be that person, get out and get to know the people around you take as much chances as you can to take courses the company offers as you be surprised how much contacts you could make while on these courses "That's how I met most of my contacts specially working in the government"

Well said abt CareerEdge.
When I came in 2013, this was still an unknown company and not many people knew it, so completion was not that much.
Now a days almost every new comer know about this one and hence the competition...
key is to keep applying in the relevant section and dont loose hope..

I have recently done with first video interview from Career Edge, they sent me email confirmation of my approval and link so that I can start applying.
My questions were: 1) Tell me about yourself 2)what do think of Career Edge 3) What is significant achievement and how achieved.

I'll be landing in April 2016, should i start applying?

if you qualified for an internship interview employers will invite you for a f2f interview, since you will land in april i would recommend you start applying closer to your landing date ..late feb. or early march.

2. What is your greatest weakness?
3. Tell me about yourself.

I got a 6 months financial analyst intern position via career edge back in May 2014 for the minimum stipend of $2500 per month.
My internship was extended to February 2015 by my host organization with a 13k increase in pay so my gross jumped to $3575 per month.

Then came February and I had an extension to march 2015 so basically my internship ended today.
I did an amazing job with this company.

Guess what? I have landed a permanent job with them to start in July 2015 with a reasonable pay.
These internships are a great way to start a career as new immigrants to canada and it might just be the foot in the door you need.

For anyone in doubt, I think career edge is doing an amazing job!!

I know this is an old post but could you please tell me if you had a pgwp and how long it was?
Also, did it expire at the end of the internship and did the company sponsor a closed work permit for you?

The reason I am asking is because I am waiting to find out if I got an internship I interviewed for. However, I have a 1 year pgwp and I am wondering if the company would sponsor me when it expires, if they offer me a permanent job.

I was an international student with a 1 year post graduate certificate. I got an internship offer from Careeredge. I was an intern for almost 12+6+2 =20 months (extended twice) and now I am a working on a permanent contract in the same team for last 4 months. I started July 2013 and it has been exactly 2 years now that I have worked here.

I signed up as a fresh graduate in July and the starting internship stipend was around $2100 monthly. After tax deductions it comes to around $1,550-1,600 for 2 bi-weekly pays. For a single guy it is a decent amount if you have shared accommodation. The monthly stipend does increase upon extensions, increased by $200 per month on first extension and $400 monthly for second extension.

The job market is tough in Canada specially for someone who does not have any Canadian education or qualification. Like someone mentioned sometimes it is not easy to even get a coop, but if it is a graduation requirement then colleges/univs ensure the students do end up with a coop/internship even if it is non-paid. I have had friends who did non-paid internships and later got hired by those companies upon completion of coop/internship.

Additionally, I know an instance of my company hiring an employee who has PR but had not completed landing in Canada. Due to his very relevant experience, he was shortlisted and online interview was conducted for him. So chances of remote hiring are very minimal but there is a chances depending on your profile and hiring company's requirements.

For students who do not study coop programs, Careeredge is a very good option. However, I again re-iterate that it is not easy to get an internship through Careeredge as alot of Canadian university graduates are now even using this medium to land their first jobs, thus making it much more tougher for international students or new PRs. It is a good way to get a foot in Canadian job market and be a part of some high-end companies, as myself got into GE Canada which is perhaps a top 10 global company.
