Hi all,

I'm a PA from India and working here in a bank and my wife is Canadian PR and she is going to apply for my spousal PR from Canada in next few weeks. Now my question is as she is going to apply for my spouse base PR, will there be any problem if I resign from my current job in India? We will surely update it in the application forms. But can I resign?

Yes - you can resign. No issues.

thanks for the reply Scylla, do I need to be employed at the time of processing of application?

No, you don't need to be.

The only reason this might be a concern is if your wife isn't working in Canada. But as long as she is working in Canada, this won't be an issue.

It wont make any difference to the application as its the sponsor responsibility to prove that they can take care of you financially once you migrate to Canada. However the process may take upto 12 months so not sure if resigning from your job is a good idea. it may also help to get a job here once you move if you do not have any breaks in your employment. my 2 cents. all the best with your application.
