Hi all,

Does anyone has an example of a P.R. renewal letter for the first time based on compassionate grounds , I was taking care of my parents till they died in home country and my P.R. expired while missing 300 day to be eligible for normal first renewal.

I would appreciate some help with :

1 -how the letter should be titled ? “Renewal request for compassionate basis “ ?
2 -how to describe the situation and where in the application
3 -do I really need a lawyer or can I do it myself ?
4 -any idea of how long does it take for a decision ?
5 -any other tips or recommendations ?

Best regards

So were you reported at entry? If not, and you are in Canada, do you really need a PR Card? Are you planning on travelling soon? If you haven't been reported and don't need to travel, don't apply to renew the card. It isn't a requirement to have one unless you are travelling. Wait until you meet the RO before applying.

The problem is that I need to travel to finish some administrative stuff in home country still , so an active PR is a must in this case , I was never reported

Is there a problem in requesting the renewal ?

Well, if you apply for renewal and they don’t accept your reasons for not meeting RO, they will start the process to revoke your PR.

Thank you for your reply , still I would take my chance with the request , can you advise how the letter should look like

I do not recommend this. Right now, you have been very lucky. You were able to return to Canada without meeting your RO and you didn't get reported. Many people in your situation are hoping for such luck.

If you apply for PR card renewal, they WILL do an RO check and find you are in violation. They will then revoke your PR status.

You need to stay in Canada an wait until you meet RO before you apply to renew.

You should have waited until you met the PR residency requirement before applying to sponsor your family. It's very difficult for any of us to say how long things will now take. Hopefully you submitted strong H&C evidence for why you were unable to meet the residency requirement. Since you applied to sponsor your family before you met RO, CIC is now reviewing your PR status to determine if you should be allowed to keep it or if they will move to revoke your PR status (and also refuse your family's PR application).

Yes - your family can apply for a visitor visa. There is a very good chance a TRV will be refused since CIC knows they have plans on remaining in Canada long term.

You need to wait to see what the outcome is of the sponsorship application.

CIC has already started a review of your PR status because you applied to sponsor your family. Again, hopefully you submitted very strong H&C evidence to explain why you have been outside of Canada.
