HI all, new to the site and looking for some information from those currently in the process.

How long from mailing the application does it take to recieve the OWP? I have met people who got it after 1-2 months and an immigration lawyer stated around 1 month but I keep seeing on here that it takes around 4 months. I'm looking for some clarification from those in the process themselves.

Also, does waiting to submit the police check and medical affect the OWP or is that just for the PR itself?

Thanks in advance.

~4 mos and the PCC doesn't affect the OWP. Depending on the country of origin, the medical could play a role in whether the PA has a limitation on jobs with at risk groups.

Also see my reply when you asked this question on the other post.

You can see actual timelines in the link in my signature. You may have to scroll to the right a bit to see the OWP...but it's 3.5 - 4 months. Some took a bit longer. If you've already applied for PR and failed to include the OWP, you'd sent direct to Vegreville, and those would take around 3 months. Never 1-2 months, unless it's a renewal online.

Thanks for the info. Well be submitting it in May. I'm currently on a WHV (UK citizen) but by the time the OWP comes through I'll be on a visitors visa. Just working out how much time we need to plan for me not being able to work

Some get them in 3 months. My wife had hers 2 days before 4 months.

Keep in mind, that having the permit isn't a requirement to find work (which can take time, depending on your profession). But to officially start working you need a work permit.

Once you get the work permit, you need to get a Social Insurance Number (SIN). This usually takes about 5 minutes, and is done at Service Canada. They will give you a temporary number. This is how your employer pays your income tax deductions to Canada Revenue Agency.
