When filling out the open work permit which of the following do I chose:
A) Extend my stay in Canada until (insert date here)
B) Change conditions

Also, what do I fill in as my reason for wanting to stay longer?
What do I need to write as far as support goes?
What other additional forms would you advice me to include?

I am unsure on this and just want to fill it out right. I am used to extensions just not an open work permit.

Should I put the OWP application in its own envelope then put it together with the whole PR application in one whole envelope?
Or would it be okay not to do that?

Thanks. :D

that's what we did and they lost the PR/Sponsorship, and (irrevocably) processed the work permit by itself; of course it was denied.

i would suggest clipping the OWP directly to the other apps and putting them all together (sarcastic: intemingle them so that it's impossible to separate one from the other without acknowledging their presence)... reference your names and receipt number on every app so that they don't get confused.

I was told by someone else who has gone through this process to check the box Change Conditions and then at the very top of the form write in big letters OPEN WORK PERMIT. The reason for staying longer is that you are applying for PR. As far as support goes, I am not sure what your situation is. As for additional documents include the ones requestion in the Check List that you must send in for Change of Conditions.

I hope this helps :)

Thank you for both of your help.
So sorry to hear that cdarroch. I hope things improve for you and your spouse/partner.
And don't worry, even if it takes a lot of time, we are going to label every sheet with our information. Thanks for the tip though.

Yes, write across the top - "OPEN WORK PERMIT APPLICATION - DO NOT PROCESS UNTIL APPROVAL IN PRINCIPLE". Check "initial work permit" and include the application in the same envelope with the inland PR ap. I would paperclip the whole extension application part together in one "section". The financial support proofs are not vital - because there is no minimum income requirement for spousal sponsorships - but include a couple of paystubs anyway. Reason for extension is PR ap in process - although that will be obvious. BE SURE to include a copy of your current status document and BE SURE to send the whole package so that it's received before your current status expires. Don't forget to pay the $150 fee and include proof with the application.

Keep a copy of everything and track delivery so that you get a delivery signature. That's your proof of implied status to remain in Canada under the same terms you were originally admitted. They will issue the OWP after they have assessed and approved you through the first stage - that will be about 6-7 months after you submit the PR ap/extension. You won't hear anything before then.

thanks, and good luck to you, as well! Things are back on track for us, I think - the PR app has been found and is being processed on schedule. The OWP app has to be refiled (read: re-PAID), but that's all... guess we should've cross-referenced more clearly! Although we did include a letter asking for the OWP to be processed at the appropriate time, we didn't write at the top of the page as has been suggested above by RobsLuv - doing so might have kept our applications together/in order.

best of luck!
