Med's Done....
28-11-2018
Hello. I was requested today to get my medicals and also my 4 children (who are older children ages 22 and under) who are in the US and have no desire whatsoever to ever come to Canada. In fact, I am not sure of the contact info for my older 2 and my ex-spouse has custody of the younger 2. (long story)

Anyway, if I get MY medical done can I still be granted my OWP even though I'm still trying to prove to them I cannot get medicals for the kids? I am going to get a notarized letter saying I surrender my right to ever sponsor and also a letter from a long-time friend who knows my situation and also divorce custody papers..but in the mean time do you think they will still grant my OWP? The OWP program is so I can work while waiting on everything else to be decided on, isn't it? Thank you.

The OWP and the PR application are processed separately. This issue with your medical should not affect the processing of your PR.
The notarized letter acknowledging that you will never be able to sponsor your children is the best route - it is what CIC would ask for, and it seems like you've found the language required for it.

Thank you. I needed that bit of comfort this evening. Question: Do you mean.."This issue with your medical should not affect the processing of my OWP?" We are grateful for the OWP pilot program. I hope I can be approved. It is my understanding if you are approved for the OWP it doesn't expire for a couple of years. I REALLY appreciate any input you have. Truly!

It's a pretty awesome program, and I hope it continues as well. I'm sort of counting on it!

I believe that the OWPs are approved, typically, for two years.

They are, unless the passport expires sooner. In that case, they're valid til the expiry of the passport as they're tied to it. So it's always a good idea to make sure the passport is valid for a few more years when sending in the application.
