If I applied for a visit visa extension, then applied for a OWP and it was denied, white waiting for an answer on the visitor extension, would that make me still on implied status for the visitor extension?

@Bryanna @canuck_in_uk @weggieinOttawa
thank you in advance!!!

1) If a PR husband files an inland PR spouse application for a visitor wife, does it mean that her visitor visa status has gone from visitor to implied immediately or that will take time?
That brings me to one more question,
2) Let's say the OWP and PR applications are sent together and you do not hear about the OWP by the 6 month maximum stay period on a visitor visa. what happens then? should the husband file for a visitor visa extension or just wait for wife's OWP to arrive and until then..she is on implied status?
3) Once the wife has an OWP, can she apply for her MSP insurance or provinvial healthcare insurance?
Thanks again!

If you are on visitor status now, when you send your OWP, your implied status starts when your current status ends.

You will have implied status until they make a decision on your OWP.

Thank you for your reply.
So in that case -the husband-wife do not have to report to any authority on the completion of 6 month duration inside Canada right? You are simply supposed to wait. Is that what you mean?

As said before, if you send your OWP with your PR app, you will be on implied status on the day your current visitor status ends.

Implied status means basically you are allowed to stay, until a decision is made.

A common thing that some people do(and which I will be doing) is send in a visitor extension, one month prior to the status ending, and send your OWP/PR a little after, just so you have a safety net in case your OWP was returned.

Again, if you apply for your PR/OWP BEFORE your current status ends, you will be on implied status until they make a decision on your OWP.

that's great info! Is there any specific reason you would be giving for visitor visa extension?

Thank you for this answer. I sent in my OWP with Sponsorship pkg a month before my visitor extension. I was wondering if one was denied..which would trump the other. Is there any reason why an OWP would be denied? I have a Master's Degree and am here in Canada living with my common-law partner. I am on legal status (previous visitor extension). This is so nerve wracking.

Limited reasons why it would get denied, the concern you'd have was if you visitor status expired while the app was being processed and it was returned for any reason (such as incorrect fee payment), you'd be out of status. Sounds like you're covered.
