Hey guys, i'm still a little confused on one thing.

I've been preparing my PR application under Common-law to a Canadian Citizen and will also be applying for OWP in the same application. I've got the checklist, Imm0008, imm5532, im5406, im5669, im1344 as well as the OWP form (IM5710). Plus enough printed evidence to sink a boat.

What I don't get is do I need to send two copies of anything or everything to satisfy the OWP application portion as they have to send it to another location. I have printed two copies of every form, every id, every piece of evidence and intended to send the second copies in the same envelope but seperated. This seems.. incorrect.

Could anyone lend me a hand and give me some confidence? Starting to second guess everything now that my work permit expires September 06 (just over 4 months)

Because these are two separate applications, there will be some overlap in documents. In other words, some things, like passport photocopies for instance, will require duplicates.

Make sure you include everything in the PR and OWP application checklists. If you do, you'll notice the need for duplicates. Keep all PR forms and supporting documents together, and do the same for the OWP.

Some people divide all the paperwork into separate folders. For instance, all of the OWP stuff will go in one folder. The PR materials will go in separate folders, such as "Forms," "Supporting Docs for Sponsor," and "Supporting Docs for Principal Applicant." For our applications, we had four folders crammed into one bigger folder/box that held everything neatly together. They'll separate the OWP material and forward it to the appropriate office.

Hey Jazz,

thanks, that clears things up a little. It may not be the nicest thing to do to the agent but it sounds like sending a whole package of duplicates in a folder called "Duplicates for OWP" will work. Overkill, annoying but work.

Oh I didn't even know about the Imm5556 Checklist. We haven't filled out a IMM5409 Common law union statutory declaration. Damn.

Don't do this. Just place everything in the order listed on the checklist you just discovered, haha. It'll help avoid mistakes/errors.

Speaking of mistakes... In case you haven't come across this on your own or on this forum: make sure you pay the full $255 ($155+$100 fees) for the OWP. One of the more common reasons for having an OWP app returned is insufficient payment.

Best of luck finalizing that huge stack of papers. I was so relieved to send our small tree off, haha.

I've spent tens of hours on this site and still missed that OWP checklist. Thank you a million times. Reading it clears up my question and so I wont be sending two trees. The fees error was burnt into my mind so luckily I dodged that one.

I’m sorry, but I would not use folders to separate the documents because they ask not to do it, you can read about it in the guide: “Don’t use staples, binders, plastic sleeves, folders or albums to submit your application. Elastic bands for photos or paper clips are acceptable.” Also, I payed a lawyer to review my application package before I sent it and he told me not to do it because he said they don’t like it. You just have to follow the checklist order and use what they ask for to separate documents.

I meant envelopes.

Many people do use them because it keeps everything, at least initially, tidy. I used them without issue. I also used paperclips when necessary. And yes, everything was in order as it appeared in the checklist.

What proofs are you sending? You shouldn't be sending enough to sink a boat. The checklist is very specific in what to send.
