Thats right. Even FBAR isn't valid for Non-Residents. I know right we have to be financially compromised for few years to benefit the other(becoming Canadian).

Days that you commute to/from work don't count as per IRS residency specifications.
So you actually have to spend appropriate number of days + nights I think
