What is constituted a misrepresentation or not, or withholding of information or not, is up to the discretion of IRCC and the officer who will be reviewing the application.
When it is certain that the OP has overstayed, even if it is unknowingly, hiding it will not help their case. The argument that IRCC will find out anyway is a poor one. When it is certain IRCC will find out due to the five-eyes program, why hide it at all? The SoP is an excellent way of explaining the case. Explain why you overstayed and the circumstances. Be smart. Do the smart thing.
