over stay in canada

hey, one of my friends from Israel is overstay for the last three years in Canada.
his got a family emergency back home and he get to go back , do the Canadian immigration service knows how long he was here ? should he have a problem to come back ?
do Israel and Canada share info? if he issue a new passport that would be enough ?

If he's not under a removal order, his overstay is resolved by his departure. However, airlines share information with CBSA, even though Canada has no exit controls. Thus, it is quite possible they will be able to tell he overstayed and may have problems returning. But nobody can tell in advance. He may be fine or they may refuse him re-entry into Canada.

If he wishes to remain in Canada, he really needs to obtain proper status.

Never lie. That becomes misrepresentation and it can lead to a two year prohibition from entering Canada. He'd be better off avoiding the question ("I'm not exactly sure").

The BEST thing is to not let the questions head that direction in the first place. A BSO has only moments to scan and ask questions. If there is no flag on his file, he would normally ask standard questions: "what brings you to Canada, how long do you plan on staying here..." Only if the answers don't make the BSO happy will that lead to more questions.

Bottom line: he really needs to figure out a better way to be in Canada other than illegally or these problems will plague him.

Seems so according to MyCIC. Good luck trying to get a Visa (anywhere) when for 3 years you've been staying somewhere illegally?

No - he doesn't need a visa to visit Canada.
