Hi, i have concern regarding spousal sponsorship, i recently got married with my bf in india, nobody know about our marriage except our close friends, it was registered marriage, i am pr in canada and my husband in india right now, i have wedding pics of just two of us , its a genuine marriage because i am known to my bf from last 9 years but our family is not ready for our marriage, can uploading wedding pics of 2 of us, our 9 years old pics, marriage certifcate and our recent chats, phn calls and hotel booking enough to sponsor my spouse ? Or do we need more proofs ?

Hi,

I have recently immigrated to Canada after my common-law partner who is a Canadian citizen sponsored me (outland).

We focused on providing proof that we live together, but we also provided screenshots of our social media pages, phone calls etc.. You can have a look at what we gave as proof here.

You will need to make your marriage public. If your close family is not aware of your wedding, did not attend your wedding, you didn’t have a traditional wedding in India, etc. it will create concerns that this was only a wedding to start sponsorship and not your true wedding that will be recognized by your family and friends. Is there a reason why both your parents and other family members did not attend your wedding? How many people attended your wedding? Did you have a court wedding or a typical Indian wedding with all the ceremonies depending on your faith? When you say you have known your bf for 9 years were you dating? How long was the in person dating? Was this Western-style dating where you have picture documenting doing things as a couple. Do you have chats, emails, etc. going back the 9 years?

So were you dating during the past 9 years? Did you go on vacation together, attend social events together as a couple, etc.? You keep on saying that your parents were not ready for your marriage. Is there a reason that they didn’t approve of your marriage? For example are you of different faiths, different citizenships, etc. Now that you are married are you planning on not telling them you are married? Not advising most of your family and friends that you are married is a big warning sign unless there are valid reasons for keeping the marriage a secret like safety reasons due to risk of honour killing for example.

we had. Intercaste marriage thats why our parents were not ready for our marriage, if we make it public there is threat to our lives because we got married against our family wishes, so can we provide this explanation to the officer

Against marriage is very different than not ready. You will have to make your marriage public at some point and show that you are not travelling home because of the risk to your life.

Have you ever lived together? Are you 'out' to at least some friends and family?
