Has he already applied or not? If he has, he should update his address with IRCC to in-Canada, and when he gets passport request, he will either get invitation to do in-Canada virtual landing or instructions on how to tell them to do the in-Canada landing.

If he's not applied yet, then yes, he can apply in Canada.

I don't think there is any considerable differences in your options.
1. You can wait on a visitor visa. Just apply for OWP in case background processing will be delayed. Otherwise you'll need to leave in 6 month.
Notifying IRCC that you are in Canada will likely have minimal impact on the time required to process.
2, You can do that as well, it probably won't have any effect the processing time. It's just that PPR can arrive while you are in Canada and then you'll have to advise them on your location, then wait until they arrange you a virtual landing.
3. That's just a waste of time and money.

Just go with 1 if you are willing to relocate right away and just finish the landing when times come. If you need or want to go back and forth between Countries then just wait and act when the PPR comes..
yes my husband have the same problem too.
He's already in canada through visitation visa. why he need passport request?? hes visitation visa expired in 2027. we are doing outland sponser and he have his interviewed last tuesday November 14.2023 in Morocco. he just went back there October 25th and will coming back this Friday. my question is if he's approve for PR does he needs to go back to morocco through immigration. or he can do it here in canada since he's here. He recieved his pre arrival letter in email. does this mean he will be approved and how long he still needs to wait for approval. thanks

Dear friends , Please I need your valuable advise. I applied for spouse sponsorship in October 2022 and I have completed eligibility, medicals and biometrics, pending is BC. London VO used to be slow as per previous comments. I have just received my visit visa. I wanted to ask please:
1) Is it possible to wait for my PR in Canada ?If I travel to Canada and change my address will it take more time for the pr process?
2) If I travel I don't change the address and after some time I come back to my country and continue to wait
3) If I travel I don't change my address I wait and when the PPR comes, I go back to my country and submit my passport

Please advise the best option someone with visit visa usually does.

Thank you very much
My husband have similar problem too.

Take it easy. If he's in Canada, when he gets notified of approval, they MIGHT be up to date and go direct to invitation for the virtual landing (which is how they complete the process to become a PR for those who are in Canada). If they do the passport request, there will be INSTRUCTIONS on how to request the virtual landing.

So no: if he's in Canada when the notice comes, he should not have to arrive in Canada.

I don't know how long for approval. Pre-arrival letter is usually an indication that things are moving normally, esp if it was just after the interview, but it is not final approval.

ok thanks for your replied and clarification. but i dont understand the passport request part (PPR). he's here already in canada, his visitation expire on 2027. Why passport request again.. isnt passport request only to those people never been to canada??

Didn’t you say that he had also returned to his home country in October and did an interview there? That would have lead to the assumption he was still abroad. You can either submit his passport or ask for virtual landing. PPR for sponsorship is for people who aren’t currently in Canada. Has nothing to do with having a visa permit. Also a TRV expiring in 2027 doesn’t mean that someone can visit until 2027. Normally any visitors will be granted up to a 6 months stay.

You're focussing on something irrelevant. Passport request is / has traditionally ALWAYS been the name for the stage at which they provide mechanism to land - including for inland. Only with covid did they come up with the virtual landing mechanism and portal (for obvious reasons, does not require physical face to face interaction).

[Hence a lot of the time on these forums 'passport request' is used as a shorthand for both approaches.]

Now as to your case: no, you are mistaken when you say 'passport request is only to those people who have never been to Canada.' Passport request can be to any, but more importantly, IRCC does not automatically shift to virtual landing for those in Canada. They have to advise by webform for this to happen, it can take months for webform to get the address updated, and there are still mistakes made.

I.e. many people get passport request although they are eligible to do the virtual landing. That's why the passport request letter has INSTRUCTIONS about what to do if you are in Canada. So just wait, he'll get one or the other in due course, difference is not that material, wait and deal with it then.

Yes he went back to MOrocco in october 25th and will come back this coming friday November 24th. and did an interviewed there last tuesday November 14th. the next day the immigration send him an pre-arrival letter. we hope its a good sign. dont know if he's approve or not.. yes every 6 months he have to go back. that's my question since he's here we want it to be virtual landing instead going back and forth. is it possible?

He probably does not 'have to go back' every six months, probably a misconception on your part, but at any rate, hopefully will get PR before next six month period comes up (i.e. next May). It sounds like it is well along after you got the pre-arrival but no-one can tell you.

He should update his address with IRCC when he arrives back in Canada. I'm guessing but it is more likely he'll get the passport request and not virtual landing, for reasons @canuck78 mentioned.

Hi everyone,

Hope all is well.

I’m currently in a similar situation and have some questions regarding TRV.

Key dates/info:

Applied: March 2023 (Outland family sponsorship)
AOR: May 2023
Medical done: Mid June 2023
Medical cleared: July 2023
In July applied for TRV when news came out that chances of approval are high if file is in process
TRV Approved: July 2023
Spousal arrived: Aug 15 2023
Web form sent to notify IRCC about spousal in Canada: Sep 1 2023
PPR: Sep 21 2023
Web form sent according to PPR requesting virtual landing: Sep 21 2023
Replied received: Oct 15 2023 however no acknowledgement about Information provides
Another we form sent: Oct 16th
Web form Replied received: Oct 21th acknowledged

no update since then:
Called recently and I was told nothing can be done as file is transferred to local Mississauga office.

Situation: We are planning on travelling to Caribbean (Jamaica) so question is
- can my spouse travel out of Canada and come back to Canada based on her TRV after a week in Jamaica
- will this travel reset her 6 months visa duration in Canada?
- also can I do anything else to expedite her file since no real progress since Sept 21 after PPR email.
- also after PPR email and my web form what should be the next step here?

any informations/guidance will be much appreciated, thank you kindly.

Your situation is exactly like my husband. we applied for spousal sponser on January 27/2023 plus also we applied visitation visa on Jan /2023 and was approved on April/2023 and he came to canada in June 12/2023 till October 25/2023. He will come back this friday November 24/2023 untill april /2024. yes every 6 months he have to go back to his country untill he have PR. he went to PR interviewed last week and the next day immigration send him a Pre arrival letter in the email. now we have to wait untill decision is made. did you go for PR interview yet?? i dont think you can travel else where with your visitation visa only to come to canada.
