Hello,
My wife and I is planing to do out land sponsorship. We got married January 2016 and she is on visitor status (expiring 2016/Mar/02) and currently living with me here in Canada. I am Canadian and she is Lithuanian. We saw some of the requirements for out land sponsorship is medical and police certificate. As for the medical, do we have to do it before the application or do we wait for CIC to tell us to do the medical? and as for the police certificate, how do we obtain such document for her in Canada (She have applied for a visitors extension for her to try stay longer)?

Hi

The medical needs to be done before submitting the app. Do it as close as possible to when you are submitting the app.

A PCC from Canada is not required. She will need to obtain any necessary PCCs and include them in the app.

I've seen in one of the requirements if your trying to sponsor someone, they need to have police certificate. IF my wife is actually required to produce a police certificate, where could we obtain such document without her going back to her home country? (She is currently on visitors status and has already applied via online application to try extend her stay).

Thank you.

As stated in the application, she needs PCCs for every country where she spent 6 or more consecutive months, except Canada. Check the website to see how to apply.

There's a Lithuanian consulate in Toronto, and a Lithuanian embassy in Ottawa. She can go to either one of these places to get one, but she has to get one nonetheless. Probably cheaper to go there than back to Lithuania

She lived in China for 8 months prior to coming here in Canada, and she is Lithuanian citizen. Does it mean we have to get her CPP in china? We live in Alberta, is Toronto the closest we can try and get her a CPP for the sponsorship?

How to get a police certificate

There's a list of all the countries that CIC wants a PCC from if the PR applicant has spent 6+ months in country (regardless of status).

Click on the applicable country and it will give you instructions on how to get the PCC needed.

So that means we need to get it from China's consulate and Lithuania's? Or just 1 of either? Because in 2015 she spent 8months in China, but other than that, just Lithuania.

You need to get one for each country where she has lived for more than 6 months.

China: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/asia-pacific/china.asp
Lithuania: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/europe/lithuania.asp

We forgot to mentioned that after the first 4 months in china she went to Malaysia and then came back to china for another 3.5 months, does that count? so she didn't stay there for more than 6 months without going out of the country.

CIC will most likely expect her to provide the PCC. I would get it now to avoid delays.

So she need to have 2 PCC's still even though she exited china for the first 4 months she was there? and it will be hard for us to obtain PCC from china since she don't know anybody there that could possibly get her the document and we don't plan to go to china just to get that.

She will need to get PCC's from any country that she has spent 6 months or more in since turning 18 years of age. You can skip getting the one for Canada as they will take care of that and ask for fingerprints if needed.

They don't care how you go about getting that PCC, but you will have to get it.

You will need one for her home country and for China, based on what you've said here. They won't care that she left China for a few months, if anything, they may also request that she produce a PCC from Malaysia as well. Just hope they don't do that as well.

Good luck to you.

Can we not try go to china's embassy to get a police certificate from them? We would not want to go to china just for police certificate. Is there anything else we could do to obtain cpp from china within Canada? (we dont know anybody who is currently living in china to help us get cpp)

Is it not possible to go to China's Embassy or Consulate to ask for help on obtaining PCC? We are skeptical about using a middle man as don't want to be scammed.
