Outland Sponsorship: Confused about status in IMM 0008

Hey all,

I am planning to sponsor my husband from the US to come re-unite with me in Canada (outland sponsorship). He is currently on F-1 OPT (work permit) status, but also applied for asylum last year April.

I have a problem filling out IMM 0008, Question 10 about "Current Country of Residence" -> "Status". What should the status be since he is on OPT (work permit) as well as asylum applicant? Or should I select "Other" and describe that he is on "F-1 OPT, also applied for asylum" ?

Is he still a student as well? If so, you could list student or worker.

Since he is also an asylum applicant, you may face a bit more scrutiny with IRCC. You should have solid evidence of a genuine relationship, which led to marriage.

He isn't a student anymore, just works on post-studies visa (OPT), a.k.a., temporary work authorization.
