Hi,

There are lot of myths online - Outland sponsoring person can be out of country for longer duration so posting this thread

I've applied Spousal PR outland for my wife in May , I got the sponsorship approval in June. I'm currently out of canada. I heard this from few people saying you can't be out of country for too long, your spousal PR will get rejected. However I haven't seen this info in CIC website, or any forums.

Please share your thoughts. Much appreciated

Cheers,
A

Recent thread here from a sponsor who received a request from IRCC to show had been in Canada from time of sponsorship to present day. Sponsor away for six months.

IRCC pretty straightforward: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...ship/spouse-partner-children/eligibility.html
"You can’t sponsor someone if you’re a permanent resident living outside Canada."

Leave long enough, they can decide you are no longer living in Canada.

No, there's no specific time period outlined. Up to the sponsor and spouse to decide if they wish to risk.

IRCC published manual states "short trips are allowed." It does not say what is not allowed.

Depends if you are a citizen or PR. If you are a citizen, no issues. If you are a PR, it might lead to a refusal of the sponsorship application. See the response above where a person has recently run into this issue.

If the rejection is based on this reason, would this hurt a future (re) application?

Are you a citizen?
