Outland or Inland sponsorship for self-employed spouse?

Hi All,

I am not finding the info I need on the government website, so thought I would check here.
I am a Canadian citizen and my wife is an EU citizen, we are based in London, and my job is transfering me back to Canada. My wife runs an online business and so is self-employed.
When we go back to Canada, she would naturally like to be able to continue to keep her website (and income) running from day 1. Is that possible? Does she need to submit work permit paperwork in addition to the Permanent Residence application?
The last thing we need is her sitting at home doing nothing for 6 months waiting for a PR decision!

We are considering either filing while both are here in London, or waiting until we land and doing it in Toronto.

Also, have EU citizens had much trouble leaving/re-entering Canada while waiting for their PR? She may need to travel while we are getting processed.
Thanks in advance!

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Out land processing of spouse sponsored PR application is faster.
As your wife is from visa exempted country she could be admitted to Canada for six months period as visitor, which is absolutely up to the discretion of the BSA. Perhaps she could be asked by the BSA to provide the proof that she will return within the allowed period. Being a Canadian Citizen you can submit the sponsorship application from outside Canada, and should return to Canada while the PR application is in process.

Apply outland. That way, your wife can definitely still work, and if for some reason she's ever refused at the border, your application doesn't go to waste. The chances of her being rejected when re-entering the country are low, but it is still a risk, and since applying outland is faster for the London office anyway, that's almost definitely the better option.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I am also concerned about the length of time it will take to get approved outland before we leave. In theory, I should be working in Canada on March 1, and she would be expecting to be there with me at that time. Staying behind in London waiting for a PR approval is not an option for her.

While you're applying outland she can come to Canada too as a visitor (assuming the border officer lets her in), she just won't be able to work.

Apply outland now, and then have her come to Canada with you to wait out the process.
