What seems to be the consensus of applying for spousal sponsorship Outland -vs- Inland other than the time frame?

From U.S. and living with hubby in SK. Married 6/8/12.
Outland it's about 90 days for his paperwork.
Inland it's 11 months.

If I apply Outland, can my paperwork come to me here in Canada?
Will I have to get a medical exam from one of CIC approved Drs here or in the states if I apply Outland?

Thanks! So glad to have found this site!

Hey Tullysgirl,

Applying outland has several advantages. It is quicker than inland, and you are free to move in and out of Canada, which is not the case for inland. As you are from the US, you can come on a visitor visa ( or stay like this if I understand correctly your situation), apply outland while staying in Canada. There is no problem with it, a lot of people do it, and CIC doesn't ahve a problem with it - so you can have a canadian address, and get all correspondance to the canadian address, and still file outland.

For the medical - it's the same, you can always do it in Canada. The only thing that you need to do is to maintain valid status ( keep extending your visitor visa) as long as you are in Canada.

the only time you might have to travel to the US is if you are required to attend an interview, but from what I understand it is quite unlikely, for US citizen, and since you have been married and living together, I doubt that they will question your relationship.
So - it's mostly a matter of putting all the papers together, and sending it off!

Good luck,
Sweden

PS> also check the first post from Leon, it explains quite a lot of things! most of what you need to know in fact.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I posted a huge long post lastnight and no one's commented. I was getting discouraged, so I posted this small one.

Your info is so helpful and I will try to find Leon's post, for sure.

For paperwork-sent off for my police report (FBI for the states) and it can take 4 months to get it back! Should I do the paperwork without it?

Medical exam...should I wait for them to ask me to do one or do one before sending in paperwork?

Outland is much better than inland. but if you travel to US. you cannot work

medical. you can do anywhere. canada or US but with CIC approved Dr only

about the fbi. i have seen many people have sent their application without fbi at first because they know it takes a while to get it

about medical exam. yes send it with the application.
Visa Officers can wait for the police clearance thing because it takes time but application sent more than one thing..can lead to more chances of sending back

correct

try sending the complete application at first (FBI can be excluded as it takes long time) and if your file has not been opened till 3months then again you have to submit fbi report as its just valid till 3months (if the officer does not have a look at it at first)
i have the same situation and i have sent the fbi afterwards when i got approval as our file passed 3months to get opened
but without medicals will be something big.
try doing the medicals and send it with application

As other have said - do the medicals for sure, and try to do it as close as possible to the time you will be sending your application, as they might expire before you get the PR ( but if you are a US citizen with an uncomplicated file, that's unlikely). Start gathering proofs, ask for FBI right away, and see when you are ready with everything else if you have the FBI - it sometimes takes less time than stated. If will save time in the long run to include everything, and it takes time and energy to put together your application, so by the time you get done, you might have the FBI report ready as well.

Good luck!

The checklist includes a spot to check off exam... yes it takes approx. 3 months to open your app (tho time is getting shorter) but do you want to delay it even more waiting for them to ask for the medical? or even send your app back to you as incomplete? and you stated you sent for your FBI for the states, you do know they want an FBI check and a background check for every state that you lived in for more then 6 months? The state background checks are fast and you usually have them back within a week. I sent for my Pennsylvania record online and next day did my Maryland @ state police barracks and I received them both the same day the following week. GL!

WOW. EACH state I've lived in?? Did not know that. Thanks for that tidbit! I'll get right on that.

As for waiting for the medical, I was confused because of the CIC website. Medical exam requirements for permanent residents:

"You must pass a medical examination before coming to Canada." Whoops..didn't do that.

~The checklist for the application says to send in the medical exam with the application, but it also says, "Medical Examination Instructions
Instructions on how to take the medical examination will normally be sent to you after you submit your application to the visa office."

So, hence the confusion.

wow
even i didnt know that .. fbi takes time for each state lived in
thank god . i lived in one state only. but the problem arises for the another country i have lived in for my whole life before i came in here.. and NZ police even does not give any police clearance report. canadian immigration does it on their own. hence. delay in the file

oh ya .. about your medical thing. you will be just given a paper to attach with your application which says you went to so and so doctor which will be signed by him. the reports will be going straight to ottawa. for that you need not worry
usually doc tells you the report is all good. and its just few main problems like Tb which is like a red flag. rest of other diseases idk

1. Actually, for the US you *only* need to submit an FBI police certificate. If they need state ones (rarely), the VO (visa office) will ask for them during the process.

2. I think I've answered this for you in a couple other threads already, but just in case someone is only following this one - for family class applicants they request that applicants submit medical exam upfront (with an Appendix C)

Hmmm....I think I will be doing the same....but submit what I have in the meantime and by the time the VO asks for it, I'll give them all I got for police/FBI reports.

I would honestly submit everything, FBI included. It's been said that if you don't include something, it will cause delays :(
