Subject: Confused: COPR Received but Passport Already with IRCC for Visitor Visa – Travel Booked for Sept 5

Hi everyone,

I’m the principal applicant for PR under Spousal Sponsorship. I just received my Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) letter, but I’m a bit confused about the next steps because of my travel plans.

Here’s my situation:

  • My PR application is approved in principle, and I received the COPR letter on August 14.
  • I am currently outside Canada.
  • My visitor visa was approved on Aug 1, 2025, and my passport is already with IRCC for visa stamping.
  • I have a booked flight to Canada on Sept 5, 2025 to join my spouse, and we planned for me to enter initially as a visitor.
The COPR letter says:

  • If I’m in Canada, I must respond via webform within 5 days.
  • If I’m outside Canada, I must respond within 30 days.
My questions:

  1. Should I complete the visitor visa process, travel to Canada on Sept 5 as planned, and then inform IRCC that I’m in Canada so they can do a virtual landing?
  2. Or should I cancel my travel plans now, withdraw the visitor visa stamping, and instead send my passport for PR visa stamping so I can land as a permanent resident directly?
  3. Has anyone been in a similar situation where their COPR came while their visitor visa stamping was in progress?
I don’t want to risk my PR application being closed for not responding within the timeline, but I also don’t want to unnecessarily cancel my booked trip if there’s a way to handle it after I arrive.

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
