Hi all,

Just wondering of anyone has ever applied for Outland spousal sponsorhip whilst already living and working in Canada with a work visa?

I am here on a 2 year IEC, coming to an end in March (I know I can not extend my IEC so I can not go down that route). Applying for PR through my fiancee in this week, and had intended to apply inland as I though it was the only method of applying for an open work permit (so I can stay working), but the wait time for outland is much less. Does anyone know if it is possible to apply from an open work permit if I am applying through Outland but am already in Canada working?

Short answer - no, not possible.

Yes - you can certainly apply outland while living in Canada. However you will not qualify for an open work permit if you apply outland. You must apply using the inland route to qualify for an OWP.

Do you know if it is possible to apply for both inland and outland? So I can submit by OWP with inland, but also have the advantage of the faster outland processing time? Then if i am approved outland, i will cancel inland application

No - you can't. You can only have one family stream sponsorship application in progress at one time. Whichever is received first will be accepted - the second one will be returned unprocessed.

Okay thanks. Looks like I'mm be doing inland so i can continue to work :(

Just remember that if your OWP hasn't arrived before your IEC WP expires, you'll need to stop working.

I have just applied Outland. So once my Working Holiday Visa expires I cannot work ? I need to extend my stay as a visitor ?
