Hello all,

I am sponsoring my wife from Lebanon. The Application was submitted and received by IRCC on Feb 23, 2017.

The background check according to the online status has not been started yet. My wife did her medical (passed).

When I submitted an inquiry through the web form, the answer was:

"Thank you for contacting Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
Kindly note that your application is still in its first stage of processing, no further action is required at this time.
You will be contacted when the application is ready to proceed to the next step.
Sincerely,"

I am not entirely sure what "first stage" actually refers to.

Can someone enlighten me please, and hopefully give me some kind of a guess as to how long more the process might take.

Thanks.

My guess is that they are still reviewing eligibility, which is whether they have concerns about the genuineness of your relationship or not. That's probably what they mean by first stage. However, if that is the case, they are being incredibly slow with it. You should order GCMS notes to find out if you will need an interview, perhaps that is why it's taking so long for you.

Then I honestly don't understand what is taking so long. It's puzzling. Your visa office has to be the slowest one ever if processing a very straight forward case takes over a year. Definitely, order GCMS notes to figure out what is going on. If you find something odd, perhaps you could contact your local MP to make inquiries on your behalf.

Thanks Juliana,

I have ordered the GCMS notes. Let's see what will happen.
