Hello everybody. I knew for a while that singapore has a long processing time but i read recently that they have also a high refusal % and it make me nervous :( . So i would like your opinion about our situation. I am canadian born citizen 39years old and never been married or common law and didn't have children; and she is thai citizen 36 years old and same as me for conjugual situation.

I met my wife in thailand(no online chat before) in november 2014 halfway of my 2 week vacation. We dated together everyday until the end of my vacation but didn't get intimate but we express that we would like to see each other again. Then we chat everyday with skype and facebook.

In february 2015 I went back in thailand for 2 week. First week we went to kho lipe south thailand for holidays together and the next week we stayed at her place near Bangkok where I met all her friend but not her family(her mom and dad are dead and brother and sister are living in Issan near the cambodian border and she has one sister living in germany for 11 years)

In march we applied for visitor visa and she got a single entry visa. She arrive in Canada on may 2nd and she met all my family and my friend. Everybody loved her and we got plenty of supporting letter plus affidavit from my mom and dad. She present me her sister in germany over skype video chat and the rest of her brother and sister over the phone coz they dont have internet. On 24th july I proposed her but no ceremony just me and her. Then we annonced to both family. She went back to thailand on august 8th coz her sister was going back to thailand for a month to visit her.
On august 20th i went back to thailand( for 1 month) and we got registered married in Bangkok on august 27th with her sister and one of her friend as witness. After we went to see her family were we had our official buddist wedding with all her family and friend. Nobody from my family was there because financial reason for some and my mom cannot stand such a long trip. We explain in our app and that we plan another ceremony in canada. We did a small honeymoon. A week end on an island near Rayong. We started to worked on our application and provided everything we can to support, supporting letter, money transfer, life insurance, chat log, boarding pass, cover letter, around 200 picture, etc.

you're opinion will be much appreciate ;)
Sorry for the long post I tried to make it short as possible.

I am also processing through Singapore so I know your feeling. As long as you have good proof of relationship I think you will be fine. My wife and I had a private Islamic wedding in which I converted to Islam. We didn't have the traditional Javanese ceremony and explained that her father believes it's against Islamic beliefs. We submitted a lot of the same proofs. I don't think Thailand has a very high marriage fraud percentage such as places like Vietnam or south China so I think you'll be okay. Just order your GCMS notes and see the comments to gauge whether or not to bombard them with more evidence before they request an interview.

Based on what you wrote if I were the visa officer I would have no concerns whatsoever. The progression of relationship/timeline is good, her visit to Canada is a plus and the fact she went back to Thailand afterwards shows her good character.

It sounds like your application is fine. You have lots of evidence, a good timeline, multiple visits, both of you have met family and friends, and she already left Canada. If she just wanted a PR to come to Canada, she could have tried to stay then. I wouldn't worry about the application. Keep visiting and communicating, and if there is an interview, you will have more evidence.

Seems like everything is in order, yeah the Singapore VO seems kind of intense, hoping to dodge the interview as well, we don't even have many members in here from that VO yet it seems like they are taking quite a while, well to be fair they are responsible for like 11 countries when it comes to the PR applications.

As for your situation Shineon, if she had gotten the TRV, the inland MAY have been a better route of going, but there are quite a few downsides, such as not being able to appeal or not being able to work etc. TRV's are very difficult to get and the Canadian government DOES look more carefully at some countries when TRV's are being issued and the ASEAN countries tend to be scrutinized more.

Everything would seem fine to my knowledge, although before it was common law, now you've officially been married. This does concern me because I'm wondering if you already changed the status and submitted the CIC documentation required for a family class sponsorship under spousal rather than common law (since some forms are different).

Conjugal applications are interesting since apparently they don't recognize "Refusal of a visa" to count as a hindrance as to why you could not be married or live together. Of course as long as you have enough evidence to support the relationship you will be fine.

Always keep your boarding passes, scan them if needed, save them, back them up to a cloud lol. Same with your passport, if you get a slip or stamp, those are very handy to have in case CIC requests for evidence of an ongoing relationship. Side note, if you are going to be in need of renewing your Canadian passport, they have an option to keep your old passport, I'd definitely do that until the PR is approved and she lands.

All in all, it's been quite the wait for us at the Singapore VO. According to some arbitrary mathematical calculations I had done, we should hear back by around mid May to late July. Seems like CIC has been pretty steady with DMs (except with the London VO), they actually seem to be coming in at a semi predictable manner now.

Javanese weddings are interesting indeed, other than males and females talking to one another (as in every other Muslim country as well lol) I don't really see it detracting from Islam in any way.

They might question you for not having a traditional wedding, but the rationale behind it seems strong enough that the officer may simply overlook it and proceed with processing the application.

I don't understand it either, but her father was very much against the Javanese thing. My wife's older sister also did not have a Javanese wedding.

I hope it doesn't cause an issue.

The wife's older sister also not having the traditional ceremony helps to prove that in your wife's family, this is not a tradition they follow. I expect it will not come to an interview, but if one is called and the visa officer questions the lack of the traditional ceremony, this is one more piece of evidence your wife can use to show that it is not normal in her family.

Yes, I wish I had thought to mention about her older sister in the original application. I really hope you're right and we don't have to have an interview. You've been really helpful to me in the past day and I'm grateful for people like you on this wonderful forum :)

Yeah canadianwoman is a great asset on this forum. She's helped me with a few things too when my wife was being sponsored. She came here in 6 months as opposed to the posted 30 month timeline. This forum really is worth its weight in gold, when you consider how much valuable info and advice you get vs paying thousands for a lawyer who might screw up your application or give poor advice. But here, everything is free
