Our spousal sponsorship application took 2 years and 2 weeks to reach conclusion. The application was approved and my husband is landing tomorrow, 31 days after he received his PR notification.

It's been a long hard journey and they never gave us any satisfactory answer as to why it took so long. Each time we called to get a status update they repeatedly said the results of security checks were still not received. It didn't make sense. It all seems so random and pointless and caused personal suffering. Some others from his country came through in as little as 10 months.

But in the end, after many complaints to the M.P.'s office, they finally admitted they have no questions, no red flags, no need for a 2nd interview, no problems found, no additional information was needed, and yet the V.O. still had to be ordered by Immigration HQ to do the work and finish the file

I'm posting this just to share that the process for some people can be long and frustrating and depressing when there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel and no explanation for why it's taking so long.

Hang in there. Your good news may finally arrive one day and you can put the misery of the long wait behind you.

I feel your pain. This process is very stressful even though my wife received her permanent residency after only 9 months.

Which V.O?

From middle of May 2016. It seems to have fallen into the group from early 2016 up to December 2016 which this government basically abandoned, while they started a new one year processing policy in December 2016. If we'd waited longer to apply we'd have been finished much sooner.
But this government decided it was okay to take up to 26 months to complete the files they received before December 2016, as long as their new system starting in December 2016 finished most people in about a year they gave themselves high marks when they were asked to account for these overdue files in the House of Commons. A complete abdication of responsibility and the didn't care that some people were getting screwed over badly because they marked themselves only on performance starting from December 2016. They were elected in October 2015. All the 2016 files were their responsibility. They just didn't give a damn.
