Original Marriage certificate (Philippines)

The spousal sponsorship application is asking for an original copy of our marriage certificate. Would submitting a certified true copy be adequate? We would rather keep the original.

First question were you married in the Philippines or else where?
If you were married in the Philippines I don't think it is overly difficult to obtain another original copy from the NSO.

If you were married else where, a certified legal copy should be sufficient

My wife who is Filipino and myself who is Canadian were married in Thailand. We submitted a legalized translated copy of the marriage certificate and we included a non certified copy of the original Thai one. We also submitted legalized translated copies of the registration. After that we had to submit Advisory of Marriages certificate from the NSO as well.

If it asks for the original, then you need to submit the original. Sending a certified copy means you would be sending an incomplete application and could lead to the app either being returned or being delayed while they request the original from you.

CIC does usually return original documents.

Hence why I said "usually". Did you contact them and ask for the original to be returned? I know a few people were successful doing that.

Yes and a NSO copy will be accepted as it will be printed on that yellow NSO paper.
