Not sure if this is the right place to post this, so please point me if there's somewhere better! I'll be in Portugal for a few weeks soon, and I'd like to be able to call my husband while I'm away. I won't have internet access, so the solutions we used while I was living in the US won't work. I know that calling cards exist, but not really what they are or how they work.

It seems kind of silly posting this right after I've moved up, but by the time I go on that trip I'll only have been here for 2 months. 2-3 weeks away is still a long time. :3

You can get a calling card that's good to use in a lot of different countries. They will have a free access number for each country and you would have to find a payphone if any still exist! It's possible you could buy a calling card like that from your local corner store before you go. Cards like that are geared towards sailors, and they work great.

Or better yet, you could pick up a cheap sim card (if you have an unlocked phone) and have him call you.

Or you can google cheap calls from the country you are residing in. It should direct you to a number to call before you make you call overseas. I pay 1p (English Currency) per min for my calls to a landline and 3p a min for calls to a cell. Connection charge for using the service is 14p 1 off fee for every call ;D
