Dear All,

My wife became a PR holder in July 2015. We want to apply for spouse sponsorship for me. It's only been 5 months since she is working. The checklist asks for an Option C printout which I believe is received only after filing of returns. My questions are below:

1) it's the first time she will be filing her returns. How much time will it take to obtain her Option C form considering taxes has not been filed yet. Suggest a fastest route to obtain option C

2) if we decide not to provide option c printout, can we put an explanation sheet for not providing an option c?

What is an acceptable reason for not providing her Option C? It's been only 7 months she has been in Canada and working for 6 months. Is that an acceptable reason?

Thank you.

You don't have to provide the Option C, if you look at the document checklist it should tell you what the alternative option is. I believe it involves writing a letter and attaching your pay stubs.

Congrats on your recent nuptials.

Your wife needs to file income taxes for the few months she worked in 2015 after becoming a PR. She can then ask for her Option C printout from CRA.

Best of luck.

I'd like to add that it's specifically 12 months worth of pay stubs.

Straight from the Document Checklist: "(a) Evidence of employment income (pay stubs) over the 12 months preceding the date of your sponsorship application, if you and your co-signer are employed" (You don't need to worry about the cosigner part).

If you haven't worked a full 12 months, they will accept what you have available especially given that the OP's wife has only been a PR herself since July of last year.

Oh, good. I wasn't sure how much leeway CIC allows with that.

Thank you responding :)

Yes, it does say that, to provide a covering letter in case we don't provide with an Option C. However, our concern is that will the application be sent back in case we dont provide with the option C.

You just have to provide letter indicating your reason for this and also ask your wife to apply if they gave option c then just have it ready incase officer asks for it.
