Hello all,

First time posting here but have been lurking quite a bit for the past few months while my spouse and I were gathering our documents.

I have a few queries specifically regarding Option C and proof of employment/income.

I have lived in Japan for close to three years already and do not think I can get an option C. In lieu of of the printout, will my proof of employment (outlining my salary, time of employment, etc...) alleviate that? I can also provide my Japanese tax forms and get them translated, but are there any other suggestions in regards to not sending an option c with the application?

Lastly, more for verification than anything, I am solely sponsoring a spouse and no other family members, so from what I understand, proof of income is not needed, right?

In the checklist (IMM 5491E) it says to provide proof of employment AND/OR income. I assume I only need to provide proof of employment, correct?

Thank you all in advance and apologies for already beating down an already very, very, dead horse. :)

Welcome to the forum :D

You are correct there is no income requirement to sponsor however, CIC would like to know that you will be able to support your spouse when you move back to Canada hence the information about employment/income. Option C also gives them information about whether a sponsor has/is claiming welfare (obviously not applicable in your circumstance). Like you my wife (sponsor) was residing abroad, however, we did request her last option C but to be honest it probably wasn't needed. We also sent in proof of income for both myself and my wife for the last year using payslips and tax forms. We just tried to cover all bases to avoid being asked for extra information.

Hello
I haven't worked in Canada so I included a letter from my employer stating my job title, start date and current salary. For the option C question there was something on the form that said if you don't include one please provide an explanation, so on a separate sheet of paper I wrote my explanation.
Good luck!

I guess it depends on your status with the CRA. Are you a non resident, deemed non resident or emigrant? Unless you do things the official way and change your status you still must file your taxes and thus you should have an option C. That is what I did at least.... I did my taxes and then got my option C. I guess you could just write a really good explanation letter explaining that you didn't do your taxes but why take the risk?
ps. I have been living in Egypt three years too so I guess we are in the same boat. ( I did this over the phone and then got family in Canada to mail me the official option c print out. It took about 3 months but I feel a lot better about my application now)

Thank you all for your prompt replies!

I was just wondering, why did it take 3 months to receive your Option C?
