Some information someone can find useful.

Previously I have not filed 2010, 2011 and 2012 taxes, but as I knew I needed an Option C so I contacted CRA to ask them if I have to file all prior years taxes or if it is ok I only file 2012. I was told that I do not have to file 2010, 2011 and 2012 to get my Option C, it is enough if I file 2012. This is what I did in July 2013, and received my assessment roughly 3 weeks after. Once I had that I applied for Option C and received it within 2 weeks.

I am planning on filing my 2010 and 2011 together with my 2013 taxes next year. CRA does not tie in prior year taxes to the next, they treat them very separetly so you can have gaps in filing certain years.

Thank you for posting this up!
I'm sure someone will appreciate it.

I was interested in looking for how long it would take to receive the "Option C Printout" and if I really need one if I haven't worked in Canada for the past 2 years. I have filed for each each though.

I live in Japan and I'm wondering how long it would take to receive it here. I'll keep looking.

Thanks!

To be honest I don't have the answers for you. From being on the forum I have learned that some people do not submit it, but they submit an explanation.

Sometimes people file their taxes when out of the country even without employment income, because employment income is not the only income that has to be declared i.e. if you own foreign property that cost you over $100K etc. So if you have filed last year's (2012) taxes with CRA even without declaring income you can order and Option C. Provided that you reported your foreign address in Japan to CRA on your income tax forms, than you will receive the option C within normal processing + mailing times (guessing only it should not take more than a month). But when in doubt you can always contact CRA.
